Position: Protective Services Officer II )

Job Overview

This position is for a Protective Services OfficerII (PSOII) at Foothills Medical Centre, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, staff, and AHS property. The role includes monitoring, preventing, and intervening in violence, enforcing relevant statutes, eliminating asset loss, conducting internal investigations, preparing court documents, securing evidence, assessing risks, and serving as a first responder to critical events.

Responsibilities
  • Provide security and protective services for patients, visitors, staff, and property.
  • Monitor, prevent, and intervene in violent situations.
  • Enforce applicable federal, provincial, and municipal statutes.
  • Prevent asset loss and conduct internal investigations.
  • Prepare court documents and secure evidence.
  • Assess risks and identify hazards.
  • Arrest, apprehend, and detain persons when necessary.
  • Respond as a first responder to critical events.
  • Support facility departments on security and safety matters.
  • Review and recommend policy changes.
  • Maintain positive public relations through internal and external contacts.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Alberta Class5 driver’s licence with no more than four demerits and no pending charges or suspensions.
  • Active or eligible for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public.
  • Successful completion of the Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6‑week program).
  • Minimum two years of related work experience or a related degree or diploma.
  • Experience in uniformed public‑service roles or emergency services such as military, forestry, park ranger, corrections, or peace officer.
  • Training in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) non‑violent crisis intervention and Pressure Point Control Tactic certificates are assets.
  • Experience with in a healthcare setting.
  • First Aid and CPR LevelC – AED certification.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, conflict‑resolution, and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Ability to manage high‑stress situations, de‑escalate conflicts, and work with diverse populations including Indigenous peoples.
  • Trauma‑informed practice skills and ability to integrate trauma awareness into care.
  • Fluency in multiple languages and public‑speaking experience are assets.
Benefits & Additional Information

Union: AUPE GSS;
Regular full‑time position; 12‑hour shifts across days, evenings, nights, and weekends; 8‑week shift length with 26 shifts per cycle; salary range $40.15–$45.99 per hour; vehicle provided with valid driver’s licence.
