Indigenous Family Support Specialist

Provide essential support to Indigenous families through Closer to Home's Siim ohksin Whahkotiwin program. Focus on emotional, practical, and cultural needs for families with children aged 0-6.

This role as a Home Visitor requires a deep understanding of Indigenous culture and the ability to offer practical assistance and emotional guidance. You will work directly with families, helping them develop critical skills in problem-solving, parenting, and managing their cultural practices. Engaging with community resources, you will establish genuine connections to Elders and foster trust.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and support family emotional needs

• Facilitate family learning in various skills

• Connect families with Elders and cultural knowledge

• Develop and evaluate family goal plans collaboratively

• Provide culturally sensitive materials and resources

Requirements:

• Diploma or Degree in a related field

• Knowledge of Indigenous culture and contemporary issues

• First Aid/CPR Level C certification

• Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License

• Clean Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check
