Position PurposeThe Mobile Support Station Outreach Worker is responsible for monitoring the activities of participants using the Mobile Support Station to ensure compliance with program rules and expectations, as well as providing a safe and clean space for all.
Accountabilities- Work alongside Outreach Program Coordinator/Team Leads to ensure job duties are completed as needed.
- Travel to designated outdoor locations in Calgary using Salvation Army fleet vehicles and support the set up and take‑down of a temporary Mobile Support Station structure.
- Driver of fleet vehicles is required and will be used during the role.
- Welcome, record attendance and connect with participants accessing the Warming Station.
- Maintain a safe, friendly, supportive, and inviting environment and work compassionately with those using the Support Station.
- Serve and maintain a supply of hot meals and refreshments to visiting participants.
- Build meaningful and empowering rapport with clients experiencing systemic vulnerabilities and walk alongside them as they identify their immediate needs and goals.
- Effectively resolve conflicts among participants and de‑escalate situations when needed.
- Refer participants who are looking for housing and other supports to a Resource Specialist when necessary.
- Ensure participants adhere to rules and guidelines to maintain a safe environment.
- Check for contraband in the space through general observations and periodic checks.
- Maintain daily recordkeeping and reports, including HMIS usage for all unique visitors.
- Ensure facility internal and external is maintained in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Regularly debrief with Team Lead on‑duty regarding program observations, best practice, continuous improvement initiatives, and participants’ personal needs and behaviour.
- Respond appropriately and effectively to emergencies.
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders such as volunteers, community partners and inter‑departmental associates.

Program Manager, Outreach Program Coordinator/Team Leader, Support Workers. - External:
Emergency services (Calgary Police Services, Emergency Medical Services, HELP Team, Calgary Transit).
Reports directly to:
Outreach Program Coordinator.
Maintain the organization and distribution of material goods to Support Station‑serving clients, including food hampers, clothing items, and coffee.
Working ConditionsWork will be performed in an outdoor setting where temperature and weather fluctuate. The role requires operating in a mobile support station structure that serves as a safe, warm, and dry place for homeless adults. The worker may deal with angry people, verbal abuse, and contact with individuals who may present poor mental well‑being or substance use. The position is subject to unpleasant odours and may affect lifestyle and work schedule.
It is a part‑time temporary position running until March
312027, requiring work on Saturday, Sunday, and Wednesday from 9am‑5pm.
