Job Description

Position:
Client Support / Case Manager. The primary focus is on supporting individuals experiencing homelessness through outreach and case management.

Responsibilities
  • Develop relationships with individuals experiencing homelessness through frequent outreach visits to foster trust, identify needs, and encourage appropriate access to services.
  • Provide emergency/crisis intervention and respond to conflict when necessary.
  • Engage clients in public places and provide ongoing support as needed.
  • Advocate for clients’ needs, facilitating access to services within CSC or external programs.
  • Research community resources that benefit clients and collaborate with community agencies to support client concerns.
  • Assist in program setup and cleanup, and support other position tasks as needed.
  • Evaluate programs and services for quality improvement.
  • Utilize internal and external data management processes for documenting outreach interactions and client information.
  • Support external reporting requests as needed.

Relationship Management
  • Internal:
    Program Manager and program staff.
  • External:
    Calgary Police Services, Emergency Medical Services, HELP Team, and community partners.
Managerial/Technical Leadership Responsibilities

Reports directly to:
Outreach Program Coordinator. This role has no direct reports.

Financial and Materials Management
  • Maintain the organization and distribution of material goods to outreach clients, including food hampers, clothing items, and coffee.
  • No financial transactions or budget responsibilities.
Working Conditions

The position involves working at offices, outdoors, pop‑up tents, encampments, and canvasing urban areas on foot. The work requires moderate physical exertion, exposure to varying weather, and potential encounters with anger or verbal abuse. Employees may encounter individuals with mental health challenges, substance use, or poor hygiene, with typical associated odors from substance use. The role requires staying on the job during changing weather conditions and may involve long hours and physical activity such as carrying up to 30 pounds.

Education and Experience Qualifications
  • High school diploma required.
  • College diploma in a related social services field strongly preferred.
  • Social Work diploma or degree must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers Class 5.
  • Class 5 Driver’s License and satisfactory Drivers Abstract considered an asset.
  • Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check required.
  • Current and valid Emergency First Aid and Level A or CPR training from an Alberta approved provider.
  • Training in Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention, trauma‑informed care, Mental Health First Aid, Naloxone, and other drug awareness considered assets.
  • Minimum of two years of related experience, with at least three months of similar work and/or experience working with a marginalized client population.
  • Frontline experience with clients in a social service environment required.
