YOUTH DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR (RELIEF)
We are seeking a Youth Development Coordinator (Relief) to provide caregiving and trauma‑informed support within the Wellington and Manhattan Place group homes. The role involves daily care, case management, goal setting, and transition planning for youth aged 8–17.
Key Aspects of This Role- Uphold a duty of care that prioritizes trauma‑informed principles.
- Recognize and respond to trauma‑related behaviours with sensitivity, safety, cultural connectedness, and relationship development.
- Assist youth to develop life skills, social skills and access to community resources.
- Organize and coordinate day‑to‑day needs (e.g., preparing meals, laundry, cleaning, scheduling appointments).
- Teach and support hygiene, cooking, money management, shopping, and safety skills.
- Facilitate physical, recreational, educational, social, cultural, and vocational activities.
- Accompany and transport youth to appointments, school, employment, or leisure activities.
- Support youth development through role modeling and teaching new skills.
- Help youth navigate relationships with natural supports.
- Provide stabilization through predictable structures, clear expectations, and positive behaviour support.
Shifts vary and may include days, evenings, nights or weekends. Relief staff must be able to work a minimum of 2 shifts per month, with opportunities for up to 40 hours per week.
Ideal Candidate- Diploma or Degree in Human Services.
- Relevant experience in youth work, family roles, community leadership, cultural involvement, or lived experience.
- Strong relationship‑building skills and a willingness to learn alongside youth, families, and communities.
- Knowledge of Indigenous peoples’ histories, languages, cultural practices, spiritual beliefs, and knowledge systems; direct experience working with Indigenous youth, families, and communities is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of the Natural Supports and Trauma‑Informed Practice Frameworks.
- Proven skills in crisis intervention, conflict resolution, critical thinking, problem solving, and excellent written and verbal communication.
- Understanding of how trauma, grief, and loss impact identity and connection with natural supports.
- Availability to attend relief staff meetings a few times a year, which may fall outside regular hours.
- Current First Aid Certification and Suicide Intervention Training.
- Valid driver’s licence and adequate insurance coverage (≥$2,000,000 third‑party liability).
- Three years of driving experience with a Class 5 licence.
- Current police and child intervention checks (valid within 6 months).
