Position: Knowledge Facilitator

About MY POTENTIA / ConnectFASD

MY POTENTIA is a Calgary-based charity advancing how communities understand and respond to FASD. We deliver ConnectFASD, providing lifespan supports, community events, and information services for individuals with FASD, families, caregivers, and the broader community.

Position Summary

The Group/Knowledge Facilitator plans and delivers structured, supportive group programming for individuals with FASD and/or their caregivers. This role creates safe, inclusive, strengths-based group environments that build connection and practical skills (e.g., adaptive functioning, emotional regulation, healthy relationships, and wellness). The Group Facilitator also documents session outcomes and collaborates closely with MY POTENTIA/ ConnectFASD staff and community partners to support participant goals and continuity of care.

Key Responsibilities Group Planning & Preparation
  • Plan group cycles, session outlines, and materials aligned with program goals and participant needs.
  • Coordinate day-to-day logistics (space/virtual set-up, supplies, reminders, attendance tracking, accessibility considerations).
  • Support intake/registration processes and communicate participation expectations and group agreements.
Group Facilitation & Participant Support
  • Facilitate groups in a trauma-informed, culturally aware, and strengths-based manner that promotes safety, inclusion, and respect.
  • Use evidence-informed approaches to build practical skills and peer connection.
  • Respond to group dynamics professionally, including setting boundaries, supporting regulation, and escalating concerns to the Program Manager when appropriate.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional standards at all times.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Complete session documentation after each group (e.g., attendance, session summary, participant engagement/outcomes, concerns, and follow-ups).
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying trends, participant feedback, and recommendations for program enhancements.
Collaboration & Community Connection
  • Work collaboratively with MY POTENTIA/ConnectFASD staff and external service providers to support participant needs and referrals.
  • Represent MY POTENTIA professionally in program settings and contribute to a respectful, caring network of support.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Post-secondary education in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Child & Youth Care, Disability Studies, Education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience facilitating groups (in-person and/or virtual), ideally with individuals with FASD, neurodivergent populations, disabilities, mental health, or complex support needs.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to document session outcomes clearly.
  • Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with diverse participants, including individuals, families, and caregivers.
Skills & Competencies
  • Trauma-informed, strengths-based practice and excellent group facilitation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills (planning, scheduling, and follow-through).
  • Ability to build trust, set boundaries, and support emotional regulation in group settings.
  • Knowledge of community resources and systems navigation (Calgary/Alberta) is an asset.
  • Comfortable working in a flexible environment with changing needs and priorities.
Additional Requirements
  • Able to work some evenings/weekends as required.
  • Ability to travel locally within Calgary for program delivery (as applicable).
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (or equivalent clearance) will be required.
