Make a difference in the lives of those facing domestic violence as a Shelter Counsellor with Fear Is Not Love . This union relief role offers flexible shifts and requires dedication to client support and safety planning.
As a Shelter Counsellor, you will engage with clients in crisis, providing emotional and practical support while facilitating their journey towards safety.
Your role will include safety planning, documenting client needs, and collaborating with agency staff and external partners to ensure comprehensive care. You will be expected to be available for a minimum of three overnight shifts per year, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to consistent client support.
Key Responsibilities:
• Establish and maintain a client caseload focused on support
• Assist clients with safety and case planning effectively
• Conduct the Danger Assessment Lethality Tool with clients
• Manage risk for clients and communicate with supervisors
• Provide telephone support through the crisis line
Requirements:
• Diploma in Human Services or related field required
• Minimum 2 years of experience in crisis support
• Knowledge of response-based practice preferred
• First Aid and ASIST certifications required
• Current registration with applicable professional bodies
