The Opportunity: We are currently seeking highly motivated Life skills Mentors for Youth to join our team. As a youth mentor, you will be responsible for helping participants in The Dollar Detectives’ programs develop confidence, resilience, and skills related to employment and finances. You will leverage your excellent communication skills to foster strong relationships. You thrive in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment, where you actively contribute your ideas and expertise to drive collective success.

The Role
  • Provide one-on-one mentorship and support to youth participating in TDD programs
  • Help youth set goals and develop action plans to achieve them
  • Support youth in completing a capstone project
  • Offer guidance and advice on life skills, employment and financial literacy
  • Build relationships with appropriate community organizations.
Preferred Skills And Experience
  • Passion for mentoring and working with youth from equity-seeking groups
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Prior experience working with youth is preferred
  • Connections to the banking and financial industry will be considered an asset
  • Completion of a background check (completed by our organization)
  • Knowledge in using modern productivity software (e.g. Slack, Whats App, Airtable)
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude with an excellent volunteer ethic
  • Must be able to work some evening shifts
  • Attend training sessions and meetings as required

Location: Calgary, AB (Blended remote and in person)

Time Commitment: 1 to 2 hours per week , 1 year term

Training: provided, ongoing support and resources I swam competitively for many years.

Location: Carya Village Commons and SAIT*

Preferred Availability: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30pm to 8:30pm*

  • Times and locations are open to change and may be adapted to suit volunteer availability
