Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre is an accredited violence against women agency working to end gender-based violence by providing accessible, compassionate, and best-practice- modeled programs and services inclusive of shelter, counselling, housing support, and prevention through a support system that inspires hope, creates safety, and fosters resilience. Our services provide a range of options and entry points, helping women gain the right kind of support at the right time in their journey.

We have an exciting opportunity within our Community Services team for a full-time (35 hours)
Community Services
Counsellor
. The Community Services Counsellor is responsible for providing professional individual and group counselling, advocacy and referral services to women who have experienced gender-based violence. The Community Services Counsellor will demonstrate a commitment to the provision of excellent client services through following established best practices and embracing the mission, vision and values of the agency.

• Collaborating with clients, conduct preliminary assessments of clients’ needs, triage client service and make appropriate immediate linkages to internal and external services as required
• Complete safety assessments and explore risk management strategies with clients
• Provide immediate crisis support
• Co-ordinating and/or facilitating a variety of groups for women who have experienced gender-based violence
• Using appropriate counselling modalities to support the ongoing development and implementation of the service plan
• Responding to telephone requests ranging from general information inquiries to counselling
• Facilitating client accompaniments to court, police, hospitals, etc., where appropriate and when possible
• Collecting and maintaining accurate service statistics, and maintaining appropriate and accurate file documentation
• Performing public speaking engagements, promoting public awareness of domestic violence issues as requested

• Minimum 2 years’ relevant work experience preferred, with at least 1 year focused on providing counselling services
• Comprehensive understanding of issues related to family violence, including a strong understanding of the links between violence, trauma, addictions and mental health
• Knowledge of the following frameworks:
• Motivational Interviewing,
• The Comprehensive Continuous Integrated Systems of Care model of service provision
• Harm Reduction
• Family and Intimate Partner Violence within a gendered lens, and
• Basic First Aid and CPR certification

• Receive a salary ranging from $48,703.20 - $50,941.80 for 35 hours per week
