The Role:

The Social Worker plays an essential role within the multi-disciplinary team, providing a range of psychosocial services to residents, their families, and staff members. This role involves supporting residents through a holistic approach, focusing on enhancing quality of life and ensuring the well-being of seniors. As part of the team, the Social Worker will uphold the mission, vision, and values of The Brenda Strafford Foundation, fostering a culture of resident safety, freedom from harm, and ethical practice.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide psychosocial support, including counseling, education, and intervention, to residents and their families.
Complete comprehensive psychosocial assessments and provide tailored interventions to address residents' emotional and social needs.
Work with residents and families on issues such as Guardianship, Personal Directives, Advanced Care Directives, and Power of Attorney.
Update Resident Care Plans based on psychosocial assessments, collaborating with residents and families to identify goals and interventions.
Maintain ongoing communication with the interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care and sensitivity to changing family dynamics.
Regularly evaluate the psychosocial needs of residents and families, revising care plans and interventions as needed.
Document all interventions and assessments in compliance with legal and organizational standards.
Participate in health and safety initiatives and maintain awareness of safety responsibilities.

Who We're Looking For:
Maintain active registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Engage in continuing education and professional development to stay current with social work practices and legislation.
Lead or facilitate committees such as the Family Support Group and Residents' Discussion Group.
Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards as outlined by The Brenda Strafford Foundation’s policies.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
Completion of a recognized Capacity Assessment Course.
Current active registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating warmth, empathy, and professionalism.
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills within the scope of social work practice.
Basic computer skills.
