Police and Court Support Worker – PACES

Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse (CCASA) is a dynamic agency that focuses on providing sexual violence counselling, support, and education services to Calgary and surrounding areas. As a Police and Court Support Worker
-PACES, you will be part of the Police and Court Education and Support (PACES) team. The successful candidate will be a compassionate, dynamic, and flexible individual who is able to work both independently and within a multi-disciplinary team to provide specialized information, education, and support to survivors of sexual assault/abuse engaging with the Criminal Justice System.

This is a full-time (35 hours/week) position reporting to the PACES Program Supervisor. If you have a great attitude and possess an anti-oppressive/feminist analysis of sexual violence, this may be the job for you.

Key Responsibilities of the Sexual Violence Support Counsellor-PACES include:
  • Providing support, information, advocacy, and referrals to individuals who have experienced sexual violence and who are navigating the CJS
  • Assisting clients with crisis and trauma symptom management
  • Providing court preparation and accompaniment to clients who are reporting to police and/or testifying in court
  • Working collaboratively with professionals from other legal disciplines
  • Completing required documentation in a timely manner
  • Providing education and training to other professionals and community members
  • Providing support and crisis intervention as part of back-up coverage for CCASA’s Support & Information Line and Alberta’s One Line for Sexual Violence, as well as to individuals accessing the Calgary Sexual Assault Response Team (CSART)
  • Participating in a number of on-call shifts after hours over the course of the year as part of a rotation

* Successful candidates will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends and may need to provide services to rural areas surrounding Calgary. Access to a reliable vehicle is necessary.

The successful applicant will have the following qualifications:
  • A degree in social/human services with a minimum of two years related work experience;
    Bachelor of Social Work degree and registration with a regulating body are preferred
  • Experience working with the effects of sexual violence on individuals and communities
  • Ability to manage a client caseload
  • Strong assessment and crisis intervention skills

    Excellent communication, advocacy, and interpersonal skills
  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to build professional relationships within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of systems and community resources within Calgary and surrounding areas
  • Knowledge of Alberta College of Social Workers Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
  • An understanding of the Criminal Justice System is an asset
  • Must be registered if degree falls under a regulatory body
