MCG Careers has provided services to unemployed Albertans since 1989. We utilize current career development techniques to assist individuals with successful employment preparation, job placement, training on the job, workshops, and skill training programs.

MCG Careers is currently seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our E6 Initiative team in Calgary Downtown as a Peer Support Worker.

What You’ll Bring:

• Personal insight into barriers such as disability, mental health, addictions, or justice involvement
• Training in mentorship, coaching, peer support, or community engagement, using trauma-informed and culturally safe practices
• Demonstrated ability to use a relationship-based approach to promote emotional safety, trust, and empowerment with Job Seekers
• Strong commitment to advocacy and inclusion
• Knowledge of community resources
• Demonstrated practice of trauma-informed care principles
• Clear understanding of professional boundaries and ethical practices
• Computer literacy with good knowledge of the Internet and job sites

What You’ll Do:

• Provide trauma-informed, lived-experience-based mentorship to Job Seekers facing barriers such as mental health challenges, substance use recovery, and long-term unemployment
• Co-facilitate bi-weekly Peer Cafés with the Service Navigator, on various topics
• Serve as a visible example that recovery and employment success are achievable, while supporting motivation and goal setting
• Establish trusting, respectful, and non-judgmental relationships with Job Seekers
• Share personal lived experience appropriately to support Job Seekers
• Provide mentorship and encouragement in 1:1 or group-based peer interactions
• Promote wellness, resilience, and harm-reduction practices
• Observe and report changes in participant well-being while maintaining appropriate boundaries
• Respond appropriately to crisis situations by following established protocols and making referrals as needed
• Support participants in accessing community resources, services, and supports
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, community partners, and service providers

About the E6 Initiative:

TheE6 Initiative (Engage-Encourage-Educate-Empower-Employ-Enrich) is an innovative service that empowers individuals with mental health disabilities to engage in the labour market. Participants work closely with a dedicated job coach to develop mental health management strategies, build essential employment skills, and receive personalized job search coaching.

The E6 Initiative also supports employers in inclusive hiring practices.
