Sr. Application Developer; Ingenium​/COBOL

Roles & Responsibilities

• Conceive and write detailed software implementations/code while ensuring that their code/configurations adhere to the security, logging, error handling, and performance standards and non-functional requirements.
• Write, configure and integrate code to create the software that aligns with requirements, architecture patterns and technology standards.
• Decompose business requirements and translate them into detailed design specifications and code.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using COBOL, and AS400 CLP.
• Assess impact of design decisions to the computer solution/product/service being developed (i.e., performance, schedule, budget, downstream component/system impact, quality, etc.) and recommend alternate/creative solutions for mitigation/optimization if required.
• Analyze and optimize application systems, monitor, track and enhance performance and address any issues (maintenance).
• Support production issues, including independently completing root‑cause analysis and diagnosis.
• Understand the implications of various components (including technology strategy & architecture) to the overall design of a program, system, or ecosystem.
• Lead/conduct detailed code reviews and provide feedback in a constructive manner.
• Design solutions, write code, perform unit testing, develop appropriate artefacts/documentation, and facilitate final delivery.
• Devise new algorithms and data structures for target environment and platform attributes in alignment with architectural patterns.
• Recommend or automate approaches to streamline and integrate technological processes and/or systems to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.
• Support the management of specific project deliverables and outcomes.
• Work independently and regularly handle non‑routine situations.
• Perform unit, integration, and regression testing to verify the functionality as per the project requirements or functionality of the mainframe systems.

• Have 10+ years of experience with IBM AS400 CLP, COBOL, in an Ingenium PAS environment.
• Development experience in INGENIUM. Versions 5.x – 7.x.
• Knowledge or related experience working in a systems development or production environment supporting life insurance applications.
• Knowledge of software development practices, concepts, and technology obtained through formal training and/or work experience.
• Knowledge of technical/business environment and processes, of life insurance products (whole life, term, disability, universal life, wealth, and health products).
• Able to demonstrate hands‑on knowledge of INGENIUM product and business process functionality.
• Knowledge of creating documentation using JIRA and Confluence.
• Ability to understand testing requirements, prepare test plan, write and execute test cases.
• Understand functional aspects and technical behavior of the underlying operating system, development environment, and deployment practices.
• Have facility with and understanding of the ecosystem that code operates in.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Good collaboration and team skills.
• Analytical and problem solving skills – in-depth.

$75,900.00 - $
