About the Role
Reporting to the Aquatic Centre Supervisor, the Instructor Tier 1 student provides safe and fun swim lessons to all participants. They must do so in accordance with the Lifesaving Society and CAR standards.
Responsibilities
1. Swim Instruction (75%)
Plan and implement swimming lessons in accordance with the Lifesaving Society and facility program standards to ensure participant progress and safety.
Demonstrate proper swimming techniques and rescue skills effectively for various ages and abilities.
Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs and maintain participant engagement.
Evaluate participant performance through regular assessment, providing constructive feedback to support skill development.
Supervise swimmers during lessons to prevent incidents and respond promptly to emergencies.
2. Customer Service and Public Relations (10%)
Communicate with participants and parents/guardians regarding lesson progress, programs, schedules, policies, and safety expectations.
Support community initiatives that enhance public awareness of water safety and recreation opportunities.
3. Administrative and Professional Development (10%)
Complete lesson plans, progress cards, evaluation sheets and attendance records accurately and on time.
Maintain current certifications.
Participate in in-service training sessions to remain updated on procedures, policies, and instructional best practices.
Willing and able to share ideas and take constructive criticism.
Qualifications
Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner/CPR-I, National Lifeguard Instructor, or who are current students.
