PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

As a Specialist, Network Car Maintenance, you play a critical role in keeping our rail network running smoothly. You will manage and balance unscheduled railcar repairs across the system to maintain operational fluidity, support train servicing functions, and deliver accurate metrics and reporting. This position is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills and the confidence to make clear, timely decisions that directly impact network efficiency and customer satisfaction.

POSITION

ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Manage databases and generate incident and issue reports that help shape business decisions and improve performance
  • Partner with field teams and customer support to resolve customer rejects, accurately identifying root causes and preventing future issues
  • Lead the car setoff process by working closely with operations, transportation, and repair facilities to keep railcars moving efficiently
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on key initiatives and represent the company in interactions with foreign railroads
  • Monitor and manage high idle bad order cars, ensuring timely billing and movement to minimize downtime
  • Own the central email inbox, providing clear, timely information to field operations and ensuring smooth workflows
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Completion of a 2-year college program or equivalent post-secondary education in a mechanical discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience in railcar inspection, maintenance, and repair, demonstrating strong technical proficiency
  • Must meet Transport Canada and CPKC criteria for certification as a Rail Car Apprentice or Mechanic, with in-depth knowledge of Transport Canada and FRA regulations
  • Ability to provide clear, concise instructions and directions to ensure safe and efficient operations
  • Willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong skills in risk evaluation and adherence to safety standards
