Solico Metal Inc. is seeking a professional, safety-oriented Class 1 Driver to join our team in Calgary. This role is responsible for the critical task of transporting structural steel modules, metal parts, and oversized loads between our fabrication shops and various job sites.
Operating a 2019 Kenworth, the successful candidate will ensure that our materials reach their destination safely and on schedule, maintaining the high standards of integrity and accountability that define our "One TEAM" culture.
Key Responsibilities- Safe Transport & Oversized Loads:
Operate a heavy truck (2019 Kenworth) to transport steel modules and oversized loads. Ensure total compliance with Alberta transportation regulations, including weight restrictions and permit requirements. - Loading & Advanced Securing:
Lead and support loading/unloading activities. Ensure all materials are properly positioned, blocked, and secured according to industry standards to prevent shifting during transit. - Pre-Trip & FLRA:
Conduct rigorous daily pre-trip inspections and complete Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs) to identify and mitigate hazards before starting each shift. - Documentation:
Accurately maintain and submit daily logs, timesheets, and maintenance reports. Ensure all Bills of Lading (BOLs) are signed and organized. - Basic Maintenance:
Perform routine fluid checks and minor troubleshooting to ensure the vehicle remains in peak operating condition.
- License:
Valid Alberta Class 1 Driver’s License with a clean 5-year commercial abstract. - Experience:
Minimum 2 years of Winch Truck experience is strictly required. - Industry Knowledge:
Previous experience hauling structural steel or heavy industrial modules is a significant asset. - Safety Focus:
Deep understanding of Alberta’s hours-of-service, cargo securement rules, and a proven track record of safe driving. - Physical Capability:
Comfortable working in an industrial shop environment and capable of heavy lifting (up to 70 lbs) during load securement. - Communication:
Strong verbal and written English skills to coordinate effectively with dispatchers, shop managers, and site personnel.
- Valid safety certifications: CSTS-20, Fall Protection, and Standard First Aid.
- Familiarity with Calgary’s industrial zones and surrounding rural project sites.
