Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
Responsible for the dispatch of transportation equipment in accordance with the Linehaul plan. Adheres to Linehaul schedules and supports efforts to maximize capacity, minimize partial trailer loads and ensure service integrity for assigned areas.
- In accordance with the Linehaul plan, executes the dispatch of transportation equipment.
- Ensures Linehaul dispatch and arrival rules are followed according to defined Company procedures.
- Dispatches cargo shipments to maximize the trailer volume while meeting package delivery obligations.
- Enters dispatch events into an online system (TMS) to ensure on time delivery and pick up of trailers.
- Verifies the location of equipment in the dispatch system by completing yard inventories.
- Verifies the load/unload status of trailers by completing yard checks. Timely reports missing equipment.
- Follows and communicates safety initiatives to ensure a safety-conscious culture.
- Investigates and reports schedule delays, accidents and equipment failures and implements contingency plans which ensure on-time load delivery in the event of an en-route breakdown or accident.
- Reviews and communicates Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). violations to management.
- Compiles data and provides various regular and adhoc reports to management for review and determination.
- Assists management with Business Control Self Assessment (BCSA) audit activity by retrieving data and/or files for review.
- Reviews trailer load condition reports (TLCR’s) to ensure proper completion.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Dispatch experience preferred.
The incumbent of this position is expected to perform all other duties as assigned, must be able to complete and achieve minimum thresholds on any mandatory testing and training, must be able to operate in a PC windows environment, have the ability to successfully complete all recurrence training and maintain annual accreditations where applicable and work varying shifts based on business needs.
If the incumbent resides in the province of Quebec, you must be bilingual (French and English). In addition to the usual factors used in the selection process, all candidates for positions that require driving as a core competency require a valid driver's license (e.g. Class 5,G, or 1[AZ]) and a driving record with two or fewer violations and/or accidents in the 24 months prior to the date of application.
Further, candidates will be assessed through careful consideration of:
1) their current driver's abstract;
2) their performance during application interviews; and
3) their performance on any driver competency assessments administered.
