Transit Bus Operator

Position: Red Deer Transit Bus Operator
Operate public transit vehicles for The City of Red Deer while prioritizing passenger safety, comfort, schedules, and respectful customer service.
The City of Red Deer is recruiting three permanent full-time Transit Bus Operators. Under the Senior Operations Supervisor, you will drive fixed routes, charters, school specials, overloads, and other required services. You will also monitor passengers, manage fares, report incidents, and communicate operational concerns.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate transit vehicles on assigned routes and scheduled services
Monitor passenger behavior and report safety incidents
Collect fares, issue transfers, and document fare incidents
Report vehicle defects and mechanical concerns promptly
Complete cleaning, pickups, deliveries, and assigned service tasks
Requirements:
Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience
One to two years of commercial driving experience desirable
Class 2 Alberta Operator’s Licence with Q endorsement
Knowledge of traffic laws, local bylaws, and Highway Traffic Act
Ability to exercise judgment during traffic and emergency situations
Bring safe driving, fare management, passenger assistance, and sound judgment to Red Deer’s public transit services.
