Job Description

The Calhoun (CAL) Production Department is committed to providing high‑quality products and services that meet our customer’s expectations. The production area is the hub of our operations and relies on the right balance of technology, teamwork, and skilled employees to meet customer needs. As a member of the CAL Production Team, you will train packers, report to the Shift Supervisor, and work closely with various team members to achieve a cohesive unit.

Responsibilities
  • Perform changeovers and complete the changeover setup form.
  • Arrange assistance for changeover.
  • Be responsible for cleaning blenders and other equipment during material changes.
  • Pre‑blend and oversee the blending or mixing of resins offline and online.
  • Complete paperwork for production sheet, labor log, scrap sheet, daily functional check sheet, safety culture, and SQC pack.
  • Ensure scrap is weighed and recorded on shift paperwork or entered into the MRP system.
  • Set all secondary equipment (printer, punches, venting, portable winders, etc.) and test functionality to assure proper setup and operation.
  • Watch for and react to stack‑light alerts.
  • Support and comply with safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Make machine adjustments as needed to maintain required product quality and/or as identified by Packer/Inspector.
  • Identify equipment shortfalls and complete maintenance request forms.
  • Follow the online schedule.
  • Identify and strive to meet expected rates or standards of production and note the correct variance code in the system.
  • Collect, weigh, and document all scrap; enter in system.
  • Assure that repro is run into product at predetermined settings.
  • Make Bill of Materials adjustments and corrections.
  • Work a 12‑hour day, 4 days on and 4 days off a week (Swing shift); weekend work is mandatory.
  • Maintain housekeeping throughout the production area.
  • Help the team relieve breaks.
  • Perform and document a 1‑hour quality check.
  • Perform other related functions and duties as assigned or required.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Continue to check run rates.
  • Perform quality checks front to back (resins, silos, computer info., blender settings, etc.).
  • Ensure tools are in the proper location.
  • Ensure auxiliary equipment is in working condition (press, vents V‑board, etc.).
  • Ensure the winder room is in proper order.
  • Cleans around extruders and blenders.
  • Obtain LOTO certification.
  • Obtain PIT certification.
  • Document any maintenance and safety concerns.
  • Ensure all BRC Food Safety Standards are followed.
  • Perform all other tasks assigned by supervisor/manager.
