Reports to: School Principal, Director of Student Services
Minimum Qualifications: State nursing license required. Registered Nurse (RN) preferred. Clinical experience in the field of nursing required. Emergency assessment and emergency room work experience preferred.
Goal: The goal of this position is to promote optimal emotional, physical, and environmental health for students, parents, and staff.
RepresentativeDuties & Responsibilities
- Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance.
- Ensures primary workstation and responsibilities are covered at all times during the working day.
- Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the use of the computer applications as applicable to job responsibilities.
- Acts in a professional manner and maintains a professional attitude towards the public and colleagues; adheres to cultural diversity guidelines, and exhibits the fundamentals of good public/customer service.
- Complies with school, system, state, and federal regulations and policies, including PSC Code of Ethics and nursing code of ethics as related to job requirements.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and material; adheres to the chain of command.
- Maintains a professional appearance as appropriate for job responsibilities.
- Maintains and improves knowledge and skills to promote proficiency in the operations of an organized, modern, updated, and efficient office.
- Participates in workshops, classes, or staff development activities and applies what is learned to the job; and accepts new challenges in a professional manner.

- Provides school health services including physical examinations, hearning, vision, dental, and nutritional screenings as needed.
- Assumes responsibility for the selection and referral of students in need of medical and/or dental care.
- Reports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters.
- Maintains updated cumulative health records of all students in accordance with public health guidelines and state law.
- Attends system-level nurse and student services meetings.
- Assumes authority, in the absence of a physician, for the care of a student, staff member, or visitor who has suffered injury or emergency illness.
- Participates with school staff in developing and implementing the total school health program.
- Advises modifications of the educational program and setting to meet health needs of individual students when necessary during IEP, SST, and/or IEP meetings.
- Advises teachers and staff on health matters, particularly regarding screening for student health defects.
- Assists school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools.
- Maintains security of medications and medical supplies.
- Provides training to school staff, parents, and students regarding health risks and/or needs of students.
- Provides an annual update on universal precautions, epi-pen, AED use, seizures, and diabetes.
- Maintains state licensure for LPN or RN.
- Constant and consistent ability to supervise students is required.
- Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
