At Core Civic, we do more than manage inmates, we care for people. Core Civic is currently seeking a Physician who has a passion for providing the highest quality care in an institutional setting.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide professional medical direction, oversight, and direct patient care in a correctional facility.
  • Perform examinations, diagnose medical problems, prescribe medications, and provide treatment and follow-up care.
  • Lead the medical program in collaboration with the Health Services Supervisor.
  • Monitor and review care standards and medical operations.
  • Interview inmates/residents and make admission decisions.
  • Conduct clinical rounds and participate in treatment team meetings.
  • Perform minor and occasional major surgeries if necessary.
  • Hold clinics for nursing specialists for diagnosis, treatment, and prescriptions.
  • Maintain relationships with facility staff, outside providers, and agencies.
  • Use established policies and procedures, exercising sound judgment.
  • Assist in policy formulation for the medical department.
  • Evaluate medical services for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Monitor hospitalizations and facilitate early releases when appropriate.
  • Manage potential catastrophic illnesses and oversee emergency responses.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and logs, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Audit medical files and recommend operational improvements.
  • Coordinate with outside hospitals and agencies to ensure quality care.
  • Support accreditation efforts (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO).
  • Accept on-call responsibilities and attend relevant seminars and workshops.
  • Provide health counseling and education.
  • Communicate responsibilities and expectations to staff and inmates.
  • Conduct staff meetings and promote effective communication.
  • Handle legal and regulatory documents and participate in legal proceedings when necessary.
  • Respond to emergencies, conduct investigations, and take disciplinary actions when needed.
  • Ensure security of the medical unit and conduct searches as required.
  • Engage in rescue functions and emergency medical aid during incidents.
  • Enforce rules and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Present information clearly and respond to inquiries professionally.
  • Identify problems, analyze data, and develop solutions.
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations and interpret instructions.
  • Remain alert and react efficiently in high-stress situations.
  • Travel domestically as required.
  • Qualifications:
    • Graduate from an accredited school of medicine.
    • Licensed to practice medicine in the state of employment.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Minimum age: 18 years.
