Payroll Tax Analyst

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Tax Analyst for a 90-day contract engagement focused on a multi-state payroll tax clean-up project. This is a hands-on position for someone who understands payroll tax compliance and can step in quickly to research historical issues, correct outstanding filings, and help bring multiple state accounts up to date.

This is not a leadership or high-level consulting position. We are looking for a seasoned payroll tax professional who enjoys getting into the details, researching discrepancies, and working through complex payroll tax issues.

• Research and resolve outstanding historical payroll tax filings and compliance issues
• Review multi-state payroll tax accounts and identify missing, incorrect, or incomplete filings
• Work through a defined backlog of state payroll tax matters
• Validate the accuracy of payroll tax filings prepared through the payroll provider
• Reconcile payroll tax records and research discrepancies
• Register and set up new state payroll tax accounts as needed
• Partner closely with payroll team members to resolve outstanding tax issues
• Maintain organized documentation of corrections, filings, and outstanding items
• Assist with payroll tax notices and related agency correspondence
• Help establish accurate processes and documentation to support ongoing compliance

• 3+ years of hands-on payroll tax experience preferred
• Paycor experience required
• Multi-state payroll tax experience required
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance
• Experience researching and correcting historical payroll tax issues
• Experience with state tax registrations and account setup
• Ability to independently research issues and drive them through resolution
• Strong reconciliation, analytical, and organizational skills
• High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines

• Experience supporting payroll for 1,000+ employees
• Payroll tax experience following a payroll system implementation or conversion
• Experience validating third-party payroll tax filings
• Familiarity with payroll tax registration or compliance tools
• Experience working through payroll tax backlogs or remediation projects

We need a hands-on payroll tax professional
, not someone who simply oversees the function. The right person will be comfortable digging into historical records, identifying what went wrong, correcting outstanding issues, and helping leave the payroll tax function in a cleaner and more manageable position.
