ABOUTTHE ROLE
The Housekeeping Maintenance Assistant plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment at Camp Paivika. This position supports the daily operation of camp by ensuring facilities, common areas, and dining spaces are sanitary, orderly, and accessible for campers, staff, and visitors.
Working under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Housekeeping Maintenance Assistant performs routine housekeeping, light maintenance, and manual labor tasks essential to camp operations. This role requires reliability, physical stamina, teamwork, and a strong commitment to health, safety, and inclusion. As a member of the camp community, this position also supports dining services and assists with special projects and emergency needs to ensure a positive and safe camp experience for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Directly responsible to the Facilities Manager but works daily with the housekeeping/maintenance team.
- Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, maintains camp facilities in a sanitary and orderly fashion, performs miscellaneous manual labor, and other related work as requested.
- Daily tasks include: cleaning all bathrooms, sweeping and mopping the dining hall, sweeping walkways, vacuuming, loading and off-loading of trucks, weeding, watering, and special projects assigned by the Facilities Manager.
- Work as food server in the dining hall during each meal and clean up dining area after each meal (sweeping and mopping)
- Attends and participates in staff orientation week and ongoing training sessions throughout the summer.
- In?an?emergency,?assumes?responsibility?for?any?job?deemed?necessary?by?the Camp Director to ensure the safety of all campers and staff.?
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of the program and organization.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be at least 16 years of age (with a valid Workers Permit).
Housing will not be provided for employees under the age of 18 years of age. - The physical ability to stand for extended periods. Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull objects related to the tasks of housekeeping and maintenance.
- Experience at Ability First camps and/or other camps is preferred.
- Must agree to abide by Ability First rules and policies.
- All offers of employment are contingent on passing background check and a pre‑employment physical exam which includes a drug screen.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift 75lbs and perform the physically rigorous daily care tasks for individuals with severe physical disabilities.
- Must be able to reside on camp premises, in cabins with campers and staff, when camp is in session.
Mandated Reporting Requirements: The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.
NOTE: All staff members hired for temporary positions at Camp Paivika are considered temporary, at‑will employees for the duration of their assignment. Temporary employees do not attain regular employee status at any time.
