The Agua Caliente Cultural Museum is a new 48,000 square-foot state-of-the-art museum located in downtown Palm Springs, California and includes a large gallery showcasing the story of the Agua Caliente people, a changing gallery to share exhibitions about Native peoples of the United States, a 1,000 square-foot store, education classroom, meeting rooms, and an outdoor education garden.
Position SummaryGallery Attendants will engage with museum visitors specific to the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and the permanent exhibition dedicated to their history and culture. They will facilitate a safe and informative exhibit experience by relaying museum policies to visitors, redirecting guests who do not follow these policies, and helping maintain a clean, positive environment with proactive assistance. The position involves training on facility issues, communicating with appropriate staff/departments, and assisting with museum opening and closing duties.
The role requires working with a diverse team and visitors, ensuring all engagement aligns with the Tribe’s direction and voice. This position reports to the Manager of Retail and Visitor Services.
- Assist in museum opening and closing procedures
- Assist in facilitating an enjoyable visitor experience by engaging with visitors in the museum galleries
- Cover for other team members during breaks
- Participate in all training activities to properly convey information about exhibitions and events hosted by the museum
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous museum or retail experience preferred
- Ability to pass background check and drug test
- Weekend availability and occasional evenings as needed
- A clear understanding and respect for the culture of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and the mission of the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum

Typically, this position requires the employee to stand for extended periods, walk, climb, crouch, and stoop. The position is mostly indoors with minimal time spent outside. Using a computer and communicating with others is a daily activity. Occasionally, the ability to lift up to 30 pounds is required.
