Basic FunctionKern Community College District accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Applications remain active for up to two years. This allows the division to contact qualified applicants immediately if a need arises without having to wait for a period of time to advertise.
Representative DutiesProvide instruction in a full range of Emergency Medical Technologies courses.
Assignment may include teaching at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning and using multiple teaching methodologies.
Other duties include participation in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Public Services department; maintaining subject matter currency; developing and revising curriculum; using computer and multimedia technology; collegial participation in departmental, college and discipline-specific professional activities.
Minimum Qualifications- Any bachelor's degree AND two years work experience;
- Any associate’s degree AND six years work experience;
- Possession of a valid credential which authorizes full-time teaching of Emergency Medical Technology at the California Community College level;
- Equivalents of education, experience and other accomplishments. Candidates must submit an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form with supporting documents.
AND a demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions. Foreign degrees must be evaluated by an evaluation service.
The screening committee will evaluate applicants and may limit the number of interviews. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not assure an interview.
Desired QualificationsEach training program shall have a principal instructor who may also be the program clinical coordinator or program director. Qualified by education and experience with at least 40 hours of documented teaching methodology instruction in related areas, and must meet the following:
- Be a Physician, Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, or Paramedic currently licensed in California; or
- Be an Advanced EMT or EMT currently certified in California.
- Have at least two years of academic or clinical experience in emergency medicine or prehospital care within the last five years.
- Be approved by the program director in coordination with the clinical coordinator as qualified to teach the assigned topics. All principal instructors from approved EMT Training Programs shall meet the minimum qualifications outlined above.
- Ability to work harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population;
- Ability to work effectively with students of varied skills and goals;
- Ability to develop curriculum, including content delivered via different modalities;
- Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges and universities;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Demonstrated ability to maintain subject‑matter currency;
- Ability to assess student learning outcomes;
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that benefit the program;
- Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
