PPG Aerospace is seeking a Aerospace S&T Color Chemist to join our color engineering team in Mojave, California. In this role you will support the entire site with your expertise of color science, chemistry skills, and coatings technology knowledge. In this role you will work on-site at our Mojave, CA facility and report directly to the S&T Color Manager.
Responsibilities- Formulate new colors across different topcoat product lines in a timely manner to satisfy customer and business requirements.
- Frequently spray panels to evaluate color matches and provide customer samples.
- Accurately read, interpret, and modify customer specifications and color formulae.
- Apply knowledge of chemistry, mathematical calculations, and color science to develop or adjust products with supervisory guidance.
- Utilize comprehensive knowledge of coating techniques, including equipment operation, batch making, and paint application.
- Set up, operate, and utilize laboratory equipment to guide formulation and complete QC testing.
- Employ color measurement technology to ensure precision and quality.
- Perform calculations and assessments to successfully scale laboratory formulas for large‑scale manufacturing.
- Participate actively in laboratory 6S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain, Safety) activities.
- Adhere strictly to Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures at all times.
- Undertake additional laboratory tasks and color‑related projects as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and laboratory experience.
- Color matching experience is preferred.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating effectively in English.
- Ability to read, understand, and modify complex color formulae accurately.
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment and document experimental results effectively.
- Must successfully pass a color vision test.
- Ability to use and wear all required safety equipment and clothing, with or without reasonable accommodation.

The base salary range for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 annually. All offer amounts are dictated by length/breadth of applicable experience and current departmental pay equity.
