Responsible Engineer for managing components from parts selection, acceptance, qualification, obsolescence, and failure analysis.
Responsibilities & Duties- Research, compare, and select electronic components for new and existing products, packages and electronic sub‑assemblies
- Find replacements for obsolete electrical components and update current designs
- Use Silicon Expert for Bill of Materials obsolescence analysis to monitor BOM health
- Provide electrical engineering support for component specs and selection in power supply design, failure analysis, and obsolescence mitigation
- Evaluate Part Change Notices from manufacturers, determine potential impact on design, and coordinate required actions
- Perform calculations, analysis and evaluations in the application and design of electrical equipment and systems for industrial and commercial applications
- Collaborate with process and manufacturing engineers for design for manufacturing and design for test
- Support testing and documentation of updated designs
- Support Mean Time Between Failure analysis
- Use MRP and configuration‑management tools, and update product documentation to reflect design changes
- Support failure analysis of power supplies, including circuit analysis, troubleshooting, and component‑level evaluation with hardware, drawings, and schematics
- Prepare business‑case analysis for obsolete components
- Act as point of contact for Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Procurement in resolving part issues, creating and revising internal standard part‑selection procedures, evaluating manufacturing issues, second sourcing, and DMS
- Support continuous improvement of operating procedures related to component evaluation
- Travel as needed to visit suppliers
- Participate in reviews with customers
- Work flexible hours and/or shifts as required
- Work safely and adhere to OSHA, EPA, State and Federal regulations
- Be punctual and dependable to meet customer product schedules
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Electrical Engineering
- 5 years applicable engineering experience preferred
- Solid experience with specifications for or failure analysis of high‑reliability and/or commercial electrical/electronic parts
- Experience with electronic laboratory equipment
- Demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues
- Good oral and written communication skills; self‑motivated and able to work with limited supervision
- Extensive knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
- Familiarity with obsolescence tools such as Silicon Expert to identify, forecast, and resolve obsolete component issues
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a team environment
- Desirable to have PCB design and manufacturing experience
- Ability to troubleshoot electronic issues using scientific principles
$80,000 – $125,000 annually
