Experience:

Minimum of 1 year relevant experience required. License:
Valid state license required.

Certifications:

BLS, CPT required.

Description:

Local requirements differ. Schedule is Monday through Friday. Required skills include:

Gray top (Fluoride, Potassium Oxalate)
Green top (Heparin, Ammonia)
Light blue top tubes (coagulation)
Patient positioning
Perform point of care testing
Post venipuncture site care
Prioritize patient collections based on order request (stat, timed, routine)
Red top tubes (plain)
Finger stick
Heel stick
Aseptic technique
Experience with neonates, infants, children, adolescents, young and middle adults, and older adults
Clinic and hospital experience
Instructions for patients on proper collection and preservation for laboratory specimens
Processing specimens for laboratory (centrifuge, aliquot, storage)
Knowledge of additives/anticoagulants in blood collection tubes
Use of blood culture bottles
Knowledge of data entry, quality assurance, and standard precautions
Identify and respond to emergency situations

Patient demographic includes neonates, adolescents, infants, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics. Daily census is approximately 30 patients. Number of beds in the unit is 50. Additional unit information may be provided as needed.
