** Description of Work
** SALARY RANGE: $50,696.00 - $77,809.00 The Office of the District Attorney, Prosecutorial District 25, seeks a qualified investigator to perform professional investigative work to support the District Attorney in developing and preparing cases for trial. The successful candidate will identify problems, acquire facts and documentation, prepare materials needed for trial, and serve as a liaison with law enforcement agencies.

** Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Prepare cases by reading case files, examining files for proper reports, determining sufficient evidence for prosecution, identifying areas lacking in information, and advising appropriate personnel of trouble spots such as gaps in information or evidence.
* Locate or relocate witnesses; and interview witnesses, including special expert witnesses.
* Serve subpoenas.
* Provide diagrams, photographs, and other exhibits required for prosecution of cases.
* Conduct special background investigations of witnesses, defendant, potential jurors, as directed by the District Attorney.
* Participate in case evaluations regarding disposition of cases.
* Conduct investigations for fact-finding projects as requested by District Attorney or Assistants and write reports.
* Manage extraditions by inquiring of other states defendants' intentions to waive the right to extradition, making arrangements for pick up, and processing necessary documentation required by extradite defendant.

COMPETENCIES:
**** Knowledge of:
** evidence collection, investigative techniques, and procedures; elements of criminal law; processes and procedures of the judicial system; basic human psychology; and social, cultural, and economic fabric of the community. Must have significant experience and skill in investigating criminal cases.
** Skills in:
** observation; analysis; information gathering; fact finding; interviewing; and report writing.
** Ability to:
** make pertinent observations and to analyze those observations against the charges in a specific case or situation; effectively communicate with people of diverse backgrounds; establish effective working relationships with law enforcement agencies; write detailed, clear, and concise reports; coordinate and share information; and work as a team member.
** Must possess a valid NC driver's license and reliable transportation.
