The Visitor Experience & Facilities Technician is a National Chavez Center (NCC) employee who supports educational, interpretive, cultural, and visitor experiences at the National Chavez Center and works collaboratively with the National Park Service (NPS) at César

E. Chávez National Monument. The position supports on-site maintenance, on-site educational programs, school and community outreach, interpretation, visitor and guest services, grant-funded initiatives, events, and the development of educational and interpretive resources. The Visitor Experience & Facilities Technician works across NCC and NPS to support shared priorities and provide accurate, inclusive, engaging, and welcoming experiences for students, educators, visitors, partners, and community members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver educational and interpretive programs, including school programs, field trips, guided tours, talks, demonstrations, and other visitor experiences.
  • Operate the Visitor Center on weekends.
  • Support property maintenance in coordination with the Facilities Technician, including cleaning the building and restrooms, maintaining landscaping around the grounds, and managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting water features such as fountains.
  • Conduct research and develop accurate, inclusive, and engaging content related to the Farm worker Movement, César

    E. Chávez, and the site’s cultural and historical resources.
  • Develop, update, and maintain curriculum, educational materials, interpretive resources, exhibits, signage, handouts, digital content, and other program resources.
  • Support educational school programs and community programs, including outreach, scheduling, communication, program preparation, facilitation, follow‑up, and relationships with educators and community partners.
  • Implement and support grant‑funded programs, including program objectives, timelines, participant tracking, data collection, evaluation, documentation, and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with NCC and NPS staff to support shared educational, interpretive, visitor‑service, community, event, and program priorities while following applicable processes, policies, and standards.
  • Support the planning and implementation of cultural celebrations, commemorative events, educational programs, and special events, including outreach, logistics, setup, breakdown, staffing, and visitor engagement.
  • Provide visitor orientation, guided tours, information, and assistance throughout the site and help ensure a welcoming, safe, accessible, and inclusive visitor experience.
  • Support visitor center, front desk, and gift shop operations, including processing sales transactions, maintaining accurate records, and responding to visitor questions and concerns.
  • Maintain program schedules, participation records, educational materials, supplies, equipment, inventory, and other program documentation and shared resources.
  • Gather and use participant feedback, program data, and lessons learned to evaluate and continuously improve educational, interpretive, and visitor experiences.
  • Assist with photography, video, audiovisual, virtual programming, social media, and other communication and outreach efforts in support of education and interpretation.
  • Support general site and outdoor operations as needed, including grounds upkeep, event setup and breakdown, site preparation, cleanup, moving materials or equipment, and other duties in coordination with the Facilities Technician.
