Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse for a four-week assignment at our healthcare facility in Joshua Tree, CA. This vital role involves providing specialized nursing care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum periods. • Monitor and assess maternal and fetal vital signs continuously during labor and delivery to ensure safety and identify any complications promptly.
• Administer medications, including epidurals and other analgesics, following strict protocols to manage pain effectively.
• Assist with labor progression, including performing cervical examinations and supporting laboring patients through various stages.
• Prepare delivery rooms with sterile techniques, ensuring all equipment is ready for safe childbirth procedures.
• Support neonatal resuscitation efforts if necessary, including initial assessments and stabilization of newborns immediately after birth.
• Educate patients and their families about labor processes, postpartum care, and newborn care practices to promote understanding and comfort.
• Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, adhering to HIPAA regulations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including obstetricians, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, and support staff—to coordinate comprehensive maternal care.
• Respond swiftly to obstetric emergencies such as postpartum hemorrhage or fetal distress with appropriate interventions.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control standards, and aseptic techniques throughout all procedures.

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current obstetric or maternity certification preferred.
• Minimum of two years of recent experience in labor and delivery nursing within a hospital setting; experience in Level I or Level II trauma centers is advantageous.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR systems), particularly Epic or Cerner platforms.
• Strong knowledge of obstetric protocols, fetal monitoring techniques, and neonatal resuscitation procedures.
• Familiarity with medication administration specific to laboring patients, including IV infusion management.
• Excellent clinical assessment skills combined with the ability to respond effectively under pressure during obstetric emergencies.
• Knowledge of infection control practices, sterile techniques, and patient safety standards.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team while maintaining compassionate patient-centered care.
• Additional skills such as suturing, IV insertion, pain management strategies, and familiarity with neonatal care are highly desirable.
