Location: Mount Shasta

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ER RN for a night shift position at a Level III trauma critical access hospital, requiring an active CA RN license and TNCC/ACLS/PALS certifications.

Requirements
  • Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact) currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS
  • COVID vaccination required
  • Minimum 2 years of ER experience within the last 3 years
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
Responsibilities
  • Work in a busy Emergency Department with 11 beds/trauma bays
  • Level III verified trauma center within a Critical Access Hospital
  • Patient volume of 20-40 per day across all ages and acuities
  • State ratios of no more than 1:4
  • 12-hour night shifts ), every other weekend
  • Traveler expected to perform triage in the single triage room
  • ER RNs manage their own holds (no separate holding area)
  • No monitor techs; RNs read their own telemetry strips
  • CT and X-ray immediately adjacent to the ED with no transport team
  • RNs perform IV starts and draws; phlebotomy also available
  • Respiratory Therapy manages vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow NC, and Airvo, and performs ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs
  • Uses Cerner EMR
  • 1 MD on-site at all times with no dedicated charge nurse; 1 House Supervisor on duty
  • Unit techs available  when staffed
  • Floating to ICU is desirable but not required
  • First to float designation for this unit
  • Possible call/standby requirement of up to 3 cut/call shifts per 13-week contract
  • Deliver emergency nursing care across a wide variety of diagnoses and all patient age groups
  • Navy blue scrub color required
  • Unit-specific orientation provided
  • Must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • In-house security available
  • Returning employees must not have been directly employed by any Common Spirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
  • First-time travelers may be considered
