Volunteer OpportunityDo you want to support conservation, wildlife? Then come along and lend a hand at our charity garden. You can volunteer for any period of time for as little or as frequent as you want. All tools etc are provided and tea/coffee. No experience is required as full tuition is offered. It is about half an acre .
It is located on the A4 near Chippenham. Train from Bristol (every 30mns) is only 23 minutes and the 55 bus from the Chippenham railway station runs every and stop right outside us. This volunteer post is available at any time throughout the year. It’s a friendly atmosphere and lots of interesting things to do and learn.
You will also be able to gain skills and obtain experience in a range of conservation and horticulture topics as well as landscape design, habitats, wildlife.
There is also a fully equipped GYMNASIUM on site you can use and also large summerhouse/study area with an interesting LIBRARY on all aspects of wildlife/gardening/history/ landscaping and design.
The garden is organic and wildlife takes precedence. The Trust also has a code of practice with regards to rights of non-human life and sentience.
The work for public benefit includes but is not restricted to:
- Training/skill enhancement for young unemployed
- Community/public education:
- Information sheets on wildlife and conservation
- Making our extensive library privately available to local students
- Book publishing
- Library available to university students, postgraduates, & scholars
- Association with Wiltshire Council Unit For Adults with learning difficulties providing placements (with their carers)

- Residential student study placements from across E.U.
The unique landscaped garden was created by the founder from a small field and consists of a series of “rooms” which includes:
- Dwarf Conifers
- Acers
- Exotics
- Coastal
- Orchard & fruit garden
- Vegetable garden
- Grasses & Phormiums
- Dianthus
- Heathers
- Cottage Garden
- Alpine
- Beach
- Herbarium
- Greenhouse & nursery
- Woodland
These are separated/secluded as a series of interesting vistas by:
- fishpond
- waterfall and pools
- wetland
- beach
- low walls
- paths
- hedges
- large wooden arches
- lawns
- patios
- arbours
- 7 large free standing fountains
- collection of specimen trees and shrubs
There are many stone statues incl. mythological creatures and life size Graeco-Roman deities, and cats.
Several patios and many seating areas allow the visitor and student to sit and reflect or meditate, study or draw or quietly talk.
