Veterinary Student Externship – Main Street Small Animal Hospital
Join United Veterinary Care in the United States as a Veterinary Student Extern at Main Street Small Animal Hospital, located in Templeton, CA. This externship is specifically designed for AVMA‑accredited veterinary students in their clinical years (typically 3rd or 4th year). Students will have the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge while working in an animal hospital of their choice.
We offer stipends to help offset travel and lodging expenses, so the experience is accessible to all students.
What to ExpectDuring the externship you will actively participate in a range of cases and develop the skills necessary to become a veterinarian. Supervisors will include an experienced veterinarian and skilled support staff who will serve as your mentors. The externship will include:
- Participation in surgical cases, dental procedures, and emergency patient workups
- Handling routine medical appointments and performing routine check‑ups
- Assist with patient history, preliminary exam, and diagnostic plan development
- Research and discuss cases with supervising veterinarians, potentially selecting one case per week for in‑depth study
- Opportunity to focus on specific technical skills of interest and discuss how to incorporate them into the externship schedule
Externs are encouraged to be proactive, introduce themselves to clients, and become an integral part of the team. The experience is a dynamic learning environment where mentorship is a two‑way street.
