Job Description:

Job Summary: Responsible for planning and supervising the daily activities of the lab, training lab technicians, and developing and maintaining lab procedures and equipment.

  • Represents Napa Wine Company professionally.
  • Handles QAC SO2 License and reporting.
  • Interacts with Director of Winemaking, Associate, and Client Winemakers to understand expectations.
  • Ensures analysis is performed accurately and timely.
  • Communicates analysis results effectively to all stakeholders.
  • Assigns, delegates, and monitors projects.
  • Addresses performance obstacles with Winemaking and Maintenance teams.
  • Ensures work is complete, proper, and safe.
  • Maintains clean work areas and well-cared equipment.
  • Supervises technician’s use of resources.
  • Orders necessary supplies.
  • Solves problems and suggests improvements.
  • Develops staff and self through education.
  • Ensures safety and compliance in the lab department.
Experience and Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years of wine lab experience and/or relevant education.
  • BS or BA in Enology or related science, with knowledge of winemaking and cellar processes.
  • Proficient in algebra, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
Equipment Used:
  • Lab wet chemistry apparati, spectrophotometers, O2 meters, IR alcohol meters, vacuum filter, centrifuge, auto-titrator, computer, calculator, microscope.
Physical and

Environmental Conditions:
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending.
  • Occasional squatting, balancing, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Environmental exposure to heat, cold, humidity, hazards, fumes, and poor ventilation.
Additional Details:
  • Reports to:

    Director of Winemaking.
  • Hours:

    Monday-Friday, with overtime and shift work during harvest.
