The Role
The Food Safety Coordinator will report directly to Food Safety manager and will play a vital role in maintaining compliance with food safety standards across cooler facilities and field operations. This position ensures adherence to regulatory requirements, customer specifications, and internal quality programs through hands‑on inspections, sampling, documentation, and training.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAll employees are responsible for food safety and are expected to notify the appropriate manager, supervisor, or key personnel if they witness any compromise to food safety or food quality.
Key Responsibilities On‑Site Food Safety & Compliance- Conduct microbiological sampling and swabbing in cooler and processing areas.
- Collect, organize, and maintain compliance documentation for audits and internal reviews.
- Perform routine visual inspections of facility conditions to verify sanitation and safety standards.
- Calibrate handheld measurement devices to ensure accurate readings for temperature, pH, and other critical parameters.
- Conduct field site inspections to verify supplier adherence to food safety protocols.
- Collect tissue, water, and soil samples for laboratory analysis.
- Provide technical assistance during regulatory, customer, and third‑party audits.
- Deliver hands‑on food safety training during monthly and annual sessions.
- Support safety training initiatives for all facility and field staff, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Perform pre‑harvest inspections and field scouting activities to assess crop health and food safety risks.
- Estimate crop yield and report on product quality, sizing, and maturity.
- Draft detailed produce specification documents, including size, cut, count, color, and pack requirements, supported by photos for customer reference.
- Maintain customer compliance portals and respond promptly to documentation requests.
- Ensure timely submission of food safety certifications, audit reports, and other compliance documents.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, Food Science, or related field.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Spanish bilingual skills preferred (not required).
- Ability to work in refrigerated environments (36°F) and outdoors in varying conditions, including summer heat.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain accuracy under pressure.
- Experience in on‑farm or facility food safety programs.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong commitment to quality, reliability, and clear communication.
- Excellent time management and teamwork skills.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards such as FSMA, GMPs, and HACCP preferred.
