Overview

The Pritchard lab in the Genetics Department at Stanford University is seeking a Staff Scientist (Software Developer
2) to conceptualize, develop, supervise, and implement novel computational approaches for genomics. The role is on‑site and requires expertise in functional or single‑cell genomics, statistical genetics, modern computational statistics, and machine learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Propose, conceptualize, design, implement, and develop solutions for complex applications independently.
  • Supervise and mentor PhD students and postdocs through all phases of research projects.
  • Engage in long‑term strategic planning and troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Lead projects for special systems and application development in complex problem areas.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation and revisions as lead or co‑author.
  • Contribute to grant preparation.
  • Participate in scientific meetings and journal clubs.

* Other duties may also be assigned.

Desired Qualifications

Proven track record of developing state‑of‑the‑art computational methods from conceptualization through manuscript preparation.

• Outstanding technical skills in machine learning and/or statistical methods with experience developing new approaches.

• Training and research experience (preferably at postdoctoral level) in at least one of the following application areas: functional genomics, single‑cell genomics, statistical genetics.

Education & Experience (Required)

Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience.

  • Expertise in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications.
  • Proficiency with application design and data modeling.
  • Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
  • Effective communication skills with both technical and non‑technical clients.
  • Ability to lead structured team development projects.
  • Ability to choose, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
  • Knowledge of application domain.
Physical Requirements
  • Constantly perform desk‑based computer tasks.
  • Frequently sit, grasp lightly or manipulate fine objects.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, write by hand.
  • Rarely use a telephone, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Working Conditions
  • May work extended hours, evenings, and weekends.
  • Employee will work in‑person daily on the Stanford University campus.

Expected pay range: $131,992 to $160,555 per annum. Final salary will reflect scope and responsibilities of the position, qualifications, departmental budget, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
