Maintenance Trades Specialist III/Mechanical/HVAC
JT4, LLC provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract (J-Tech II). JT4 develops and maintains realistic, integrated test and training environments and prepares our nation's war‑fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and aircrews for today’s missions and tomorrow’s global challenges.
Job SummaryWorking independently from the work unit Lead, the incumbent must be proficient in multiple maintenance trades (electrical, mechanical/HVAC, structural, carpentry, and/or plumbing assemblies) with high‑level skills and knowledge of Mechanical/HVAC to effect repairs of facilities, machinery, mechanical equipment and related subsystems. Work is performed in accordance with relevant guides and regulations of the trade.
Responsibilities- Examine mechanical equipment to diagnose trouble or malfunction.
- Dismantle or partly dismantle subsystems and perform repairs primarily using hand tools.
- Replace defective parts with items obtained from existing stock.
- Prepare written specifications for major repairs.
- Reassemble machines and make necessary adjustments for operation.
- Install, service and repair environmental‑control systems utilizing refrigeration theory, pipe fitting and structural layout.
- Mount compressor and condenser units on platform or floor according to blueprints or specifications.
- Fabricate and install ductwork and chassis parts using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
- Cut, bend and/or thread tubing or pipe to join refrigerant units using appropriate couplings and solder to form a complete circuit.
- Install expansion and discharge valves in circuit.
- Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and power source.
- Install air and water filters in completed installations.
- Observe pressure and vacuum gauges, adjust controls to ensure proper operation.
- Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure them with cement or wire bands.
- Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units using electrician hand tools and test equipment.
- Provide work direction and instruction to lower level maintenance workers as required.
- Provide status updates to supervisor regarding project progress.
- Perform all other position‑related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent and completed training as part of a formal apprenticeship program.
- HVAC base trade with a valid Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification upon hire.
- Ten (10) years of directly related work experience with demonstrated proficiency in Mechanical/HVAC building trade disciplines.
- Attendance or ongoing formal training in a second trade with working experience in that trade.
- Working knowledge of technical terminology and language related to a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment/systems.
- Basic personal computer skills and proficiency with applications software and database usage sufficient to maintain records.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid, state‑issued driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship.
The expected salary range for this position is $77,740 to $87,464 annually.

Working ConditionsWork is generally performed outdoors but may be indoors in a shop or repair facility. Conditions may include moderate noise and extreme weather. The position may require travel to remote work sites. The role requires frequent stooping, stretching, and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds; heavier loads require two people or mechanical assistance.
