The Town of Auburn Pakachoag Golf Course, a 9‑hole municipal facility is seeking a dedicated individual to fill the role of Assistant Golf Course Superintendent under the direct supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and in collaboration with the Clubhouse Manager. This role is hands‑on and ideal for an individual with strong turf management skills who thrives in a small team environment.
The assistant is expected to work alongside the Superintendent and the Groundskeeper to perform daily course maintenance to ensure high standards of course playability and presentation.
This is a full‑time salary position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist with the execution of all golf course maintenance operations including mowing, bunker care, irrigation, fertilization, and chemical application.
- Monitor turf conditions and help implement agronomic practices to support healthy playing surfaces.
- Operate and maintain maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
- Preform irrigation troubleshooting, repairs, and scheduling using automated or manual systems.
- Maintain records for pesticide applications, irrigation logs, and equipment maintenance.
- Support snow removal, leaf cleanup, and other seasonal facility care as needed at the golf course and throughout the town.
- Serve as acting superintendent in their absence.
- Communicate with the superintendent to plan and prioritize daily and weekly maintenance activities.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, kneeling, crouching, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate machinery and tools on uneven terrain.
- Minimum of 2 years of golf course maintenance experience.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a state pesticide applicator’s license within 90 days of hire.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Massachusetts Hoisting license within 90 days of hire.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work independently.
Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred.
- Familiarity with basic irrigation troubleshooting and repair.
- Experience with equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of seasonal turfgrass management.
