SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under the supervision of the Senior Training Supervisor, plans, and evaluates fixed route and paratransit bus operator training programs; conducts classroom and behind-the-wheel training; oversees driver evaluation programs; assures compliance with state and federal driver certification guidelines and regulations; and performs related duties as assigned. Transit Trainer is responsible for the design, development, delivery and administration of programs and services that meet the Agency’s legal requirements for developing and training highly skilled, safety-conscious, customer- focused operators.
In addition, an incumbent participates in training new bus operators, retraining veteran bus operators and providing other technical training as needed. The incumbent is expected to apply best- practice training and adult education standards and methods in administering, evaluating. designing and conducting training programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Designs, develops and delivers Agency training programs for new and incumbent bus operators in compliance with federal and state laws and verified transit training (VTT) requirements; conducts classroom training, including training on methods and techniques for courteous, customer-oriented passenger-driver interaction; conducts behind-the-wheel training; conducts pre-trip, skills, road and driving tests with bus operators for license requirements; performs behind-the-wheel evaluations of return-to-work operators.
- Coach, mentor, and develop staff to achieve and maintain a high-performance, customer service-oriented work environment that supports and promotes the Agency’s mission, strategic goals and core values.
- Continuously assesses and evaluate training programs and results, and updates and modifies existing class curricula and materials as needed; analyze and assess staff training needs based on operational, training, and safety issues and recommend new training programs or a course of action; assess the relevance of training programs and retires out-of-date or ineffective classes based on feedback and needs; designs and develops training manuals and materials for new programs;
meets with department managers and staff to ensure that training courses are accurate, comprehensive, practical and consistent with the Agency’s vision, values, mission and strategies. - Creates and maintains operator files, log books, training records and VTT certificates; maintains training program files in accordance with DMV and CHP regulation, including student records, evaluations and performance standards; reviews DMV pull-notice program and reports findings; prepares informational and statistical reports.
- Create and provide periodic reports regarding the effectiveness and outcomes of training programs; provides feedback to management regarding appropriateness and readiness of new and incumbent operators to assume behind-the-wheel responsibilities.
- Assists with accident and incident investigations;
