Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

We’re looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join our fantastic, supportive team at Calweton Vets on a permanent contract.

We’ve been providing outstanding care for pets and farm species in Devon and Cornwall for over 65 years. Our practice network includes three small animal facilities: the main branch in Callington
, and two smaller surgeries in Looe and Saltash
, all with operating facilities. We are located close to the sea, Dartmoor, and nearby Plymouth. We handle all medical and surgical cases, with full equipment including dental radiography. A regular visiting peripatetic orthopaedic surgeon supports us, and we hold a diagnostic imaging certificate for cardiac and abdominal scans performed in-house.
Certificates and/or special interests are actively encouraged and we offer a generous CPD budget and time off. The team includes seven vets (part‑time and full‑time) along with highly skilled nurses and support staff, and we hold weekly clinical meetings. Membership is included at China Fleet Country Club, which offers a 25‑metre swimming pool, gym, exercise classes, sauna, and steam rooms.

• Full‑time position (4.5 day working week) – open to flexible working options – we’re happy to discuss what arrangement works best for you.
• Daytime hours 08:30‑05:30, including one hour lunch break.
• Participation in Saturday morning rota (1:6) – would increase to 1:7, with additional TOIL.
• No emergency on‑call; in‑patient care retained in house – a dedicated night nurse stays with patients overnight, and a vet is on‑call for the in‑patients.
• Working in each branch, but flexible to suit preferences.
• Salary – dependent on experience.
