WHAT YOU'LL DOUnder the general supervision of a dean, the Counselor will provide specialized academic counseling services, career guidance, and advisement to students from diverse backgrounds for the purpose of developing and facilitating the attainment of their academic, vocational, and personal objectives.
There is currently one full-time, tenure-track position at Oxnard College. With the initial focus on retention & Rising Scholars, the counselor will facilitate transitional pathways focusing on early interventions, retention, and justice-impacted advocacy to increase student enrollment and completion and guide students to College resources including those for currently and formerly incarcerated students.
The Counselor will work with instructional, student services, and leadership at Oxnard College and interface with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Ventura County Sheriff's Department, Ventura County Probation Department, and other community organizations to provide support to students. The Counselor will provide some onsite counseling at the Ventura County Probation Juvenile Facility.
The Counselor is scheduled according to staffing needs as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT Agreement. Nontraditional assignments such as evening, weekend, or off‑site assignments may be made with the consent of faculty member, management or when special conditions exist on a campus as defined.
WHERE YOU'LL WORKOxnard College was founded in 1975 and is the newest of the three community colleges in the county. Set on 118 acres and located two miles from Pacific Ocean beaches, the college is easily accessible by the Ventura Freeway (Highway 101) or the Pacific Coast Highway.
