Agricultural Education Specialist (CES
3)
Hansen REC, Camarillo, CA – University of California Agricultural Research and Extension Center (HAREC).
OverviewCollaborate with UC Cooperative Extension (UCCE) to develop, coordinate, and evaluate outreach and education programs that increase agricultural literacy among the public, teachers, students, and professionals in Ventura County.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and deliver new education and outreach programs at HAREC/UCCE (50%).
- Organize, conduct, and evaluate educational activities such as farm field trips, summer camps, demonstration days, curriculum adaptation, school gardens, and farm-to-school efforts.
- Assist in short‑ and long‑term planning and design of facilities for future educational activities, including demonstration kitchens and indoor/outdoor education spaces.
- Participate in the development of a strategic plan for Agricultural Education in Ventura County (25%).
- Participate in and evaluate the impact of educational and outreach events; assist in event planning and publicizing events such as Ventura County Farm Day and Agri‑Tech Fair (15%).
- Develop and maintain a collaborative network of educational institutions and nonprofits in Ventura County (10%).
- Associate degree in agriculture, environmental science, nutrition, education, psychology, sociology, community development, or related field (or equivalent experience/training).
- Continuing education in a related field.
- Experience implementing programs and developing educational materials to meet organizational needs.
- Experience working with diverse youth, families, and/or community audiences.
- Experience collaborating with multiple community organizations.
- Ability to maintain positive interactions and work cooperatively.
- Experience organizing, coordinating, and publicizing events.
- Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation communication skills.
- Analytical skills for conducting analysis and developing recommendations.
- Knowledge and skill in delivering programs, including online formats.
- Proficiency with business software:
Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom.
- Knowledge of current community educational programs and trends.
- Experience in strategic short‑ and long‑term planning, moderation/facilitation, and report writing.
- Proficiency with graphic design software (Adobe, Photoshop, Publisher, Canva).
- Proficiency with web‑based applications such as Constant Contact, social media, and website design.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Valid California Driver's License; flexible travel schedule; proof of vehicle liability insurance required.
- Background check and potential fingerprinting required.
- Must comply with regulatory reporting requirements (California's Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act).
- Overtime and occasional weekend work may be requested.
- SMOKE‑AND‑TOBACCO‑FREE environment per ANR policy.
- Discretion required in handling sensitive information.
Salary: $51,600.00 – $69,300.00 per year. 100% fixed, 2‑year contract appointment.
