Principal Incoming Material Quality Engineer

As a Principal Incoming Material Quality Engineer, you will ensure all materials used for product manufacturing comply with quality requirements and build strong relationships with suppliers to improve their quality capabilities. An understanding of fab processes and related materials and chemicals is essential to coordinate internal user requirements with supplier deliveries.

Using a process approach, you will implement the incoming material process, gate material quality, manage internal material flows, and determine root causes of abnormalities to prevent recurrence. Continual improvement of quality and data systems is required to drive toward zero defect expectations for our automotive and medical customers.

The position is scheduled for core business hours, Monday‑Friday, though additional hours may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Implement the system to manage incoming materials, including daily material gating, OCAP, documentation, and coordination with other parties.
  • Communicate with vendors to ensure quality requirements are met, audit, and coach them to improve their quality systems.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to identify requirements, assess risks, and build systems.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for materials and chemistry, performing research for new materials and problem analysis.
  • Define IT system requirements for data systems, validate that systems meet requirements; knowledge of AI, SQL, VBA, and Oracle, or similar, is a plus.
  • Work within TSMC’s corporate standards while adapting to local risks and resources, driving continuous improvement of effectiveness and efficiency, and proactively identifying and delivering solutions.
  • Document and refine procedures to ensure effective implementation, include error‑proofing, maintain records, and validate self‑audit practices.
Requirements
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States; no sponsorship available.
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related physical science discipline.
  • 8‑12 years of experience with IC manufacturing is a plus.
  • Experience communicating with suppliers for material and chemical quality management.
  • Follow a process approach to ensure materials and chemicals meet requirements before release to production.
  • Support business continuity activities, identify prioritised risks, find alternative sources, and qualify them.
  • Apply problem‑solving processes to identify root causes and corrective actions for non‑conformances.
  • Perform supplier audits to ISO 9001 and, where applicable, IATF 16949; knowledge of ISO 14001 and QC 080000 is a plus.
  • Apply quality concepts and tools: process approach, risk management (FMEA), control plan, MSA, calibration, SPC, OCAP, 8D/DMAIC, DOE, 3‑leg/5‑why.
  • Familiarity with chemical analysis methods such as ICP‑MS, GFAA, IC, Auto‑titrator, FTIR.
  • Define IT data system requirements, validate that systems meet requirements; knowledge of SQL, VBA, Oracle, or similar is a plus.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office, including Excel macros, pivot tables, and efficient data analysis.
  • Ability to work with AI tools.

Work Location & Schedule

On‑site at TSMC Camas, Washington. Core business hours:
Monday‑Friday 8 am–5 pm; additional hours may be required.

Total Rewards Pay Transparency & Other Compensation

Base salary typically ranges between $88,672.00 and $ per year; full salary range extends from $88,672.00 to $. Total compensation includes market‑competitive pay, profit sharing, incentive bonuses, and tuition assistance.
