The Senior Facilities Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability and performance of all facility systems within a 24/7 operational environment. This hands‑on position works closely with Facilities Engineers and other senior technicians to develop advanced technical expertise, with a strong emphasis on industrial control systems, instrumentation, and life safety systems. In addition to performing complex troubleshooting and maintenance tasks, the Senior Facilities Technician will progressively assume responsibility for on‑shift operations, ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of all facility systems.
This role requires a proactive approach to problem‑solving, a commitment to continuous learning, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, mission‑critical setting.
- Focus on facilities instruments and control systems, including industrial control systems and equipment that supports clean‑room operations in a semiconductor manufacturing FAB.
- Assist with programming, installing, and operating and maintaining the site’s life safety systems, such as fire alarm systems, VESDA systems, and toxic gas monitoring systems.
- Work with PLCs, DCS, field instrument calibration, and control system communication protocols for operations and maintenance upgrades, troubleshooting, and new installations.
- Manage daily operations of all facilities semiconductor systems, including responding to alarms and basic equipment troubleshooting to resolve abnormal situations.
- Coordinate outside service and construction contractors to execute facilities maintenance projects and Facilities Work Request (FWR) projects.
- Perform equipment and system maintenance as assigned and use the FIIX CMMS system.
- Collect and analyze system operational data to proactively develop preventive maintenance programs.
- Apply advanced troubleshooting skills to determine root causes of equipment failures and formulate repair strategies and corrective & preventive maintenance plans.
- Maintain facility system uptime at or above 100%.
- Operate forklift and personnel lift equipment.
- Complete repairs, maintenance projects, and a wide range of assigned tasks related to semiconductor facilities systems/ equipment.
- Handle chemicals, including wastewater treatment chemicals, FAB bulk chemicals (process chemicals), and RODI treatment chemicals.
- Participate with the Emergency Response Team.
- Perform other facilities department operations, maintenance, and project tasks assigned by supervisor/manager.
- AS/AA in engineering field (electronics, control systems) preferred; relevant experience and industry certifications/training can be substituted for formal education.
- 10+ years of experience within a semiconductor support function or semiconductor facilities operations and equipment maintenance.
- Familiarity with piping systems, boilers, chillers, cooling water systems, HVAC, pumps, compressors, bulk gases, specialty gases, wastewater treatment, bulk chemical distribution, ultrapure water, electrical power distribution, field instruments, and control systems.
- Experience and exposure to instrumentation and control systems, including PLC operation and programming, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Fire Alarm Systems field instrument calibrations, and semiconductor toxic gas monitoring systems.
- Demonstrated abilities with basic mechanical, electrical, and control system troubleshooting for various semiconductor facilities systems and equipment types.
