Position Summary
The City of Camas is seeking a Division Chief – Fire Marshal. This exempt, non‑represented position is eligible for a full benefits package including paid time off and paid administrative leave.
Job DutiesThis position will oversee and coordinate the organization, staffing and operational activities of the fire prevention program of the Fire Department. Duties include fire code development and enforcement, plans review, fire investigation, and community education. The Fire Marshal conducts on‑site inspections, prepares compliance reports, and delivers public presentations to various groups, the Planning Commission and City Council. The position reports to the Fire Chief and may act as Fire Chief in their absence when appointed.
Minimum Qualifications- Completion of an associate’s degree (bachelor’s degree preferred) in fire science or a related field, supplemented by specialized training or certification coursework in fire protection, investigation, building construction, administration or management.
- Seven years increasingly responsible experience in fire prevention and firefighting, including at least two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and valid ICC Fire Inspector II certification.
- Possession of a valid ICC Plans Examiner certificate.
- IAAI certification or equivalent as fire investigator.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year, an accredited Fire Marshal Designation (ICC, CPSE or equivalent).
The finalist will undergo a background check prior to hire.
