We are looking to appoint an experienced registered nurse to lead our busy IPU team at Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. The successful candidate will work alongside the IPU Manager and multidisciplinary team to lead, manage, develop, and support the nursing team in the delivery of high‑quality end‑of‑life care. The Ward Sister will deputise in the IPU Manager’s absence and support the introduction of new initiatives and improvements, fostering a culture consistent with our values of compassion, inclusion, dynamism and accountability.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, manage, develop and support the nursing team in delivering high‑quality end‑of‑life care.
- Deputise for the IPU Manager in their absence.
- Support the introduction of new initiatives and improvements.
- Ensure smooth running of the ward and delivery of high‑quality nursing care.
- Manage staff, conduct 1:1s, appraisals, performance management and staff development.
- Experience at Ward Sister/Charge Nurse/Senior Nurse level or proven ability to operate in a senior clinical leadership role.
- Commitment to high‑quality end‑of‑life and palliative care.
- Ability to lead a nursing team and provide day‑to‑day management.
- Experience directly managing staff and attending to their development needs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills, able to prioritise workload.
- Commitment to practice development, education, audit, continuous learning and quality improvement within an inpatient setting.
