This role is for a Staff Nurse in the Medical Acute Dependency Unit (MADU) at Frimley Park Hospital. The MADU is a fast‑paced 12‑bed unit providing level 1 and 2 care with cardiac monitoring and non‑invasive ventilation.
Responsibilities- MADU is a 12‑bed unit and has facilities for full cardiac monitoring and non‑invasive ventilation.
- We provide level one and two care to patients with a variety of conditions from GI bleeds, DKA, type 1 and type 2 respiratory failure requiring non‑invasive ventilation, heart failure, severe electrolyte imbalance, central lines and arterial lines monitoring, amongst others.
- Provision of nursing care for patients with a variety of acute conditions.
- Co‑ordinating the care of patients across the multidisciplinary team.
- Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of individual patient care with minimal supervision.
- To work as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that treatments are correctly carried out in accordance with policy.
- With minimal supervision, be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient needs.
- To make and receive referrals from other disciplines with minimal supervision.
- To assist in the promotion of health.
- To participate in extended role nursing procedures such as intravenous injections, inotropes, CPAP and BiPAP according to Trust policies and follow appropriate training and certification.
- Demonstrate a sound knowledge of infection control standards and promote these within the ward setting.
- NMC Registration (essential)
- Degree Level Registration
- Acute care/critical care course
- ILS
- ENB 998/Mentor preparation
- Recent experience within an acute medical nursing environment (essential)
- Post qualification experience
- Competent in basic life support and IV administration
- Able to prioritise workload (self and others) and meet deadlines
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
- Effective working with multidisciplinary teams
- Able to work flexible shifts, weekends and bank holidays as required
- To work in other areas of the department when required
