Electronics Engineer, Hardware Engineer
PE Global is currently recruiting for an experienced Electronics Hardware Engineer to join our technology client based in Cambourne. The role is an initial 24-month contract, working on a hybrid basis with a minimum of 2 days per week onsite.
As an Electronics Hardware Engineer, you will own board-level hardware development from specification through production release. Have significant impact on our multidisciplinary R&D projects, grow with us as we venture into new technologies, and contribute to the connected devices line of products throughout both discovery and delivery. You will design, develop, debug, and optimise optimize robust, production-ready electronics Hardware for resource-constrained, low-power IoT devices while contributing to product discovery, delivery and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the complete board-level hardware lifecycle, including requirements, specifications, component selection and schematic design.
- Guide PCB layout and lead prototype bring-up, hardware debugging, firmware integration, design verification and validation.
- Deliver low-power, mixed-signal and wireless designs that meet functional, reliability, manufacturability, EMI/EMC and regulatory requirements.
- Create clear specifications, engineering calculations, test plans, reports, design records and production-release documentation.
- Support engineering changes, root-cause investigations and design improvements throughout the product lifecycle.
Requirements
- BSc or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Six to eight years of hands-on board-level hardware development experience, including involving in at least one product from specification through production release.
- Demonstrated experience in schematic design, component selection, PCB layout guidance, bring-up, firmware integration, design verification and validation.
- Strong understanding of low-power design, digital, analogue and mixed-signal electronics, common interfaces including I2C, SPI and UART, and structured failure analysis.
- Methodical, organised and able to deliver production-ready, maintainable hardware with complete technical documentation.
- Battery-powered micro-power systems, embedded microcontroller designs and power-budget optimisation.
- Wireless integration involving LoRa, GNSS, Bluetooth or comparable technologies, including RF coexistence and antenna considerations.
- EMI/EMC design, pre-compliance testing, regulatory compliance and design-for-manufacture activities.
- Proficiency with Altium Designer or an equivalent professional PCB design platform.
