Position: DAY CAMP COUNSELLOR - RECREATION
Collaborate with other camp staff to plan and coordinate 8 weeks of camp content, including a variety of themes and activities that support the social, emotional, and physical well-being of participants.
Participate in all aspects of program delivery, including set-up, take-down, and supply management.
Clean, maintain, and ensure the proper use of camp facilities and equipment, with a strong focus on CLC’s COVID-19 safety protocols.
Complete daily documentation related to program content, as well as details of any incidents (e.g., accidents or rule violations), for communication with parents and camp staff.
Engage with local businesses and community-based organizations to explore potential partnerships for Fundayz Camp. Maintain positive relationships with community partners to enhance opportunities for both the camp and CLC as an organization.
Typical hours of work: 70–80 hours bi-weekly.
Formal Education, Training, and Experience Required
Minimum of a high school diploma. Post-secondary education in Developmental Services, Recreation and Leisure, Human Services, or a related field is preferred. Enrollment in a Bachelor of Arts program in Human Services or Education (e.g., teaching degree) is considered an asset.
Experience working in camps and/or supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
Experience in coaching, mentoring, or peer leadership is an asset.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the needs and rights of individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, addictions, and LGBTQ+ communities.
Ability to effectively establish and maintain professional boundaries with individuals supported.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Strong interpersonal skills, including an upbeat and engaging personality, along with excellent organization, documentation, time management, and communication skills.
Ability to self-direct and take initiative.
Additional Requirements
Must hold a valid G or G2 driver’s license and provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening.
As this position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program, applicants must not be over the age of 30.
Applicants must be a minimum of 15 years of age.
Mandatory training week beginning mid-June.
Additional Information
All postings require current certification in First Aid, CPR, NVCI, WHMIS, and a valid driver’s license unless otherwise specified.
